Real Connection Starts With Being Yourself
I believe therapy works best when you don’t have to edit yourself to be in the room.
I’m Marti Tourville, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist offering individual and couples therapy in California. My approach is warm, direct, curious, and grounded in the belief that our experiences make sense when we understand the context in which they developed.
I work collaboratively with clients to explore patterns, relationships, identity, attachment, and the experiences that continue to shape how they move through the world. Therapy with me isn’t about becoming a different version of yourself. It’s about creating enough space to understand yourself more fully, and deciding what you want to do with what you discover.
A Little About Me
My clinical background spans a range of settings and includes extensive work with trauma, anxiety, depression, relationships, and psychosis, with specialized experience in early psychosis intervention.
I’m trained in EMDR and draw from trauma-informed, attachment-based, person-centered, and evidence-based approaches. My work with individuals and couples often explores relationships, identity, attachment, and the ways our experiences shape how we understand ourselves and connect with others. My practice is LGBTQIA+ affirming and welcomes the complexity of identity, culture, relationships, and lived experience.
I’m also completing my Doctor of Marriage and Family Therapy (DMFT), where my work has expanded beyond the therapy room into research, leadership, and systemic change. My doctoral research explores therapists’ attachment styles and professional burnout, an extension of my interest in relationships, authenticity, and the human experience within therapy.
What It’s Like to Work With Me
Therapy with me is conversational, collaborative, and real. I’m not a therapist who believes you should do all the talking while I quietly nod from across the room. I’ll ask questions, offer observations, challenge you when it feels useful, and help you look at things from perspectives you may not have considered before.
There’s room for depth and difficult conversations, but there’s also room for humor, curiosity, and the ordinary messiness of being human. I don’t expect you to arrive knowing exactly what you want to say or where the conversation needs to go. We figure that out together.
Most importantly, I want therapy to be a place where you don’t feel like you have to perform. You can bring the complicated, contradictory, unfinished parts of yourself into the room. We can work with what’s actually there.
